Salempur Mission in the District of Deoria had its humble beginning on 18 July 1984 when CST Fathers ventured to stay in a rented house and started St. Joseph’s School. This mission encompasses pastoral, educational and social development ministries. In 1985, 114 decimals of land was purchased on the Salempur-Chero Road and the Ashram and School were relocated to this site. On 20 March 1986 Most Rev. Dominic Kokkat CST, Bishop of Gorakhpur, laid the foundation stone for the Priest House. On July 03 1987, the Mission Station was handed over to Little Flower Congregation and it was declared as one of the CST our Ashrams by the Superior General Fr Xavier Olickal CST. On the same day, the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) Sisters of Bhopal Province joined this Mission and the Pushpa Sadan Convent was blessed and inaugurated by the Bishop. At present FCC Sisters of Bareilly Province are collaborating with us for pastoral, education and social development ministries. Initially, the school was English Medium, but it was converted to Hindi Medium in 1988. With financial assistance from Misereor, Germany, a new school building with eight classrooms, veranda and toilets was constructed and inaugurated in 1991 and was renamed as Little Flower School. Considering the pressing need of the people of the locality the School was converted to English Medium in 1996. The school got No Objection Certificate from the Uttar Pradesh Government on 28 April 2001 was affiliated to CISCE, New Delhi and attained the recognition for the same on 25 May 2001.The process of the upgradation to the level of Plus Two was completed on 2 July 2006. Little Flower School has a strength of 2266 students on the roll from KG to class XII with 114 Staff members including 3 FCC Sisters and two CST Priests. A new Church building was constructed and blessed by Cardinal Mar George Alenchery on1 october 2017 and there are about 100 members attending Sunday Holy Mass. From the beginning of this Mission, Social Work programmes were introduced in the Villages of Salempur Block under the auspices of PGSS, the Diocesan Social Service Society. Now there are Social Work programmes facilitated in the selected Villages under Little Flower Society and PGSS separately.
