Hajipur is the headquarters of Vaishali District which was separated from the district of Darbhanga on 12 October 1972 in the state of Bihar. The founder of Hajipur, Haji Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah’s tomb is now called Haji-Pir and the name of the headquarters of Vaishali district, “Hajipur” has emerged from the same word. The Diocese Muzaffarpur was erected in March 1980, bifurcating the Archdiocese of Patna and Mission in Hajipur is one of the initiatives of the Diocese of Muzaffarpur. In the beginning the Mission was a Dialogue Centre, managed by the Jesuit Fathers of the Patna Province. Later in 2003, the mission was taken over by the diocesan priests. The liturgical services were held for the faithful at St. John’s Academy, which is owned and managed by a Catholic Family. The Mission was functioning in a rented house. The Diocese purchased the present plot of land of 2.3 acres 2010, constructed a temporary building and shifted the Mission House to the new site. Later the Priest House was built in 2010. The Diocese started St. Xavier’s School for the children in the area in 2014. A new Church building was constructed and St. Xavier’s Church was dedicated in 2017. There are about 70 Catholics who regularly attend the liturgical ceremonies. Fr. Arthun Surin was the Parish Priest of the Church and Principal of St. Xaviers School for the past 12 years. The Medical Mission Sisters opened a Convent in Hajipur and started social works, under the banner of Mahila Vikas Kendra, but they had to withdraw from the place due to stiff opposition from vested interests. CST Fathers entered into a Contract on 01 October 2022 with the Diocese of Muzaffarpur for the following 30 Years to manage and develop the Mission Station with its Parish and establish a Higher Secondary School. CST Fathers are committed to Pastoral, Spiritual, Social and Intellectual Development and empowerment of the people of this area with an integrated Development approach. Fr. Abin Panamthottam was appointed as the Assistant Parish Priest in the month of March 2023 and he started staying in the Priest House with Fr. Arthun. The official handing over ceremony of the Hajipur Mission to the CST Fathers was held on 04 May, 2023 at 5.30 p. m with Eucharistic Celebration by Most Rev. Cajetan Francis Osta, the Bishop of Diocese of Muzaffarpur, in the presence of Rev. Fr. Sabu Kandamkettiyil CST, the Provincial Superior of Litter Flower Province, Rev. Fr. Alex Kurisummotill, Vicar General of the Diocese of Muzaffarpur and many Fathers, the Parishioners and Teachers from St. Basil School, Raxaul. The Bishop appreciated Fr. Arthun’s wonderful works and dedication to the Hajipur Mission for the last 12 years, cordially welcomed the CST Fathers to Hajipur Mission and extended best wishes for the future ministry in Hajipur. Immediately after the Holy Mass, the Bishop, and the CST Provincial Superior signed the handing-over document at the Altar in the presence of all gathered. The Bishop declared that hereafter the Church would be known as the Little Flower Church, Hajipur and the Priest House would be known as the Little Flower Ashram, Hajipur. After the declaration, the tabernacle key was handed over to Rev, Fr. Lona Kallely, the newly appointed Parish Priest. The Registered Legal Lease Agreement with the Diocese took place on July 7, 2023. It was decided that St. Xavier’s School was to be closed from April of the Academic year 2023-24 as it was not functioning well and wanted to have a new beginning with Little Flower School. The foundation stone for the new Little Flower School was blessed and laid on 09 August, 2023. Fr. Mathew Puthenpura, during his Sabbatical Year was at this Mission during August 2023 to January 2024. The Construction works progressed well and Little Flower School shall be opened from April 2025-26 Academic Year. Fr. Abin Panamthottam was transferred and in his place Fr. Bibin Kalarickal took charge as Assistant Parish Priest in July 2024. Fr. John Vadakkel joined the Mission as Superior and Parish Priest in July 2024.
