The Holy Rosary Church situated at Donar Road, Darbhanga, about one kilometre from Darbhanga Railway Station, was started in 1894, with the purchase of a house and four bighas of land offered by a Catholic Family named as Sweeney for Rs. 4,000. Initially the Parish was looked after by Capuchin Fathers and later by Jesuit Fathers from 1914. This Parish was under Patna Archdiocese till the Diocese of Muzaffarpur was created on 28 March 1980. The Church had Quasquicentennial celebrations, marking its 125 years of existence on 20 October 2019. Fr. Sushil Gabriel was the Parish Priest of this Parish from 2018 to March 2024. On 01 October 2022, on the feast of St Therese of the Child Jesus, CST Fathers entered in to a contract with the Diocese of Muzaffarpur to manage two Missions - Holy Rosary Church at Darbhanga and Little Flower Mission at Hajipur - for the next 30 years, for facilitation of different ministries for the proclamation of Good News. Fr. Lona Kalley was appointed as the superior of both missions. The Parish was completely handed over to the CST Fathers of Little Flower Province, Gorakhpur as per the agreement with the Diocese of Muzzaffarpur. Fr. Noble Pallathukuzhy was appointed the Assistant Parish Priest and Fr. Aneesh thiyathett as the assistant mission incharge since June 2023. Fr. Roy Mathew took Charge as Parish Priest and superior of Darbhanga mission in April 2024. There are 110 Catholic Families under this Parish and is spread over an area of 20 kms. Within the limits of this Parish, the Congregation of the Holy Cross Sisters of Hazaribagh has a Convent and a Higher Secondary School attached to their Convent. The Congregation of the Immaculate Conception (CIC) has established two Communities - Nirmal Niwas where they have a Social Work Centre under a Registered Society known as Nirmal Mahila Kalyan Kendra, Nirmal Dental Clinic and a Dispensary and another Community about 10 kms away from the Church and they manage Nirmal School. Besides, the Brothers of the Missionaries of Charity, a Congregation started by St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata has their Community and a Leprosy Rehabilitation Centre about 08 kms away from the Church. Most of the members of the Families are engaged in various private service sector Institutions like Schools, Hospitals and a few are in Government Offices. Majority are in the category of Class IV Employees like peons, clerks, and support services and some are Class ll Employees like Teachers, Nurses etc.
